Transfer Partnership

A Training Department Strategy

There are formal and informal guiding principles that influence the relationship between an organizational business unit and a training department’s mode-of-operations.   For examples:

  • More production at less cost.
  • Less time off the job and in the classroom.
  • Accepting personal responsibility for one’s behavior.
  • More participatory decision making using work teams.
  • Increased use of problem solving and critical thinking skills, not memorization.
  • Matching training activities to job site realities.

If a training department strategy fails to embrace these principles within their methods, their efforts will result in serious disconnect and a threat to the business unit’s performance. This presentation and workshop will use those principles and recommended instructional processes to maintain the integrity of the training department and it’s alignment to the business unit.  The fundamental focus will be on the business unit and training partnership that occur prior to and after conducting the course.

The overall themes of this session are:

  • Without skill transfer to the job, there is no learning.
  • Training activities begin well before and continue after the classroom experience.
  • Most training investments do not produce full and sustainable transfer to the job.
  • Client organizations with direct support from training departments, must monitor post-classroom work performance and provide documented feedback.

The major purpose of this workshop is to promote and develop an effective partnership among business unit managers, trainers, and trainees to identify and solve training job skill transfer challenges.  That is, a Transfer Partnership
